On the 14th June 2025 the London Baptist Property Board held their first Governance Conference

There is an ever-increasing and daunting list of statutory requirements being placed upon our churches and sometimes it can be overwhelming.
As part of the LBPBs strategy we are committed to helping churches ensure that they are operating properly and in accordance with the law. Trust Office, Martin Shaw, regularly gets enquiries about good governance and he and the Regional Team seek to promote good practice across our churches. As part of our commitment to ensuring good governance, Martin and the LBPB Chair, David Reader, put together a training course for church trustees and operations managers thinking through some of the scenarios that regularly come up in church life.
This led to us putting on our first ever Governance Conference where we invited church leadership teams from the across the association to access training on being a trustee, giving an opportunity to explore real life case studies and navigating the pit falls that can occur when good governance is not followed.
Over seventy church leaders gathered at Battersea Chapel on 14th June 2025 and were both encouraged in their practices and given much to think about and take back to their churches. A number of attendees expressed that they wished their whole leadership team had accompanied them, as they all need to hear this! The LBPB Directors are currently considering how to build on this successful day.
