About us

London Baptists supports the mission and ministry of around 290 Baptist churches across the greater London area – and a few outside too. We exist to encourage and equip our member churches as they pursue their own distinct vision and calling to the local communities in which they’re based.

Our staff come in all shapes and sizes.

We have a staff team of six regional ministers and other support staff. We also have twenty-eight district ministers in your locality. All of us are here to help you in your ministry and mission.

More about us

Founded in 1865 by the leading pastors of that era, London Baptists has evolved and changed in as many ways as our great capital city has over these past 150 years.  From Croydon to Camden; from Erith to Ealing; from Walthamstow to Wimbledon; London Baptists covers a vast array of different communities and, as an organisation, we celebrate the cultural diversity which reflects our great city.

Aside from general support and advice related to Baptist church life, London Baptists provides assistance with pastoral vacancies, conflict resolution, grants for ministry and mission, loans for buildings projects, mission consultancy, safeguarding training and advice, and much more.

Through our subsidiary, The London Baptist Property Board, we are also a trust company for 318 churches across London and the surrounding areas (e.g. Essex, Surrey and Berkshire). New Baptist churches are being planted in London all the time. If you’re interested in joining London Baptists, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

London Baptists is one of the thirteen regional associations of Baptists Together, the national movement.

Governance

London Baptists (a charitable company limited by guarantee) is overseen and maintained by the Board of Directors; individuals all in membership of local churches. We meet roughly six times a year as a Board and there are a variety of committees and groups which attend to specific matters within our association life who report back to the Board from time to time.

The staff team report to the Board both in person and through the Team Leader who sits on the Board as the senior member of the team. The Board are also responsible for the appointment of Directors to our wholly-owned subsidiary trust company, The London Baptist Property Board

The current Board of Directors is listed below. The Board is serviced by our Company Secretary and Association Administrator, Nigel Redford.

How we’re funded

London Baptists – like all parts of our national and regional Baptist family – is funded primarily by the national Home Mission appeal. Generous giving from our member churches helps us help you

Any money received from the Home Mission fund is spent in three different ways.  It funds the thirteen Regional Associations (including London Baptists) and enables us to provide resources and recruit staff.  It is dispersed in Mission Partnership Funding grants (of which there are currently around 20 recipients in London). And it helps fund the Specialist Teams based at Baptist House in Didcot, Oxfordshire who resource churches through legal, ministries, HR, safeguarding and finance support.

Aside from the Home Mission appeal, London Baptists also receives income through membership subscriptions, investments and appropriation from our subsidiary trust company. If you want to know more about how we’re funded — or would like to begin giving to London Baptists — please contact Nigel Redford.
