Resources for Churches in Settlement and those considering their position on women in ministry

As part of the London Baptists response to Project Violet we are committed to actively investing in settlement to help to make women ministers experiences better and to promoting and using resources in churches to explore issues and expectations around women in ministry. As part of this commitment we have developed some resources that we hope you find useful. These reflect the BUGB and London Baptists stance that gender is no bar to any ministerial or leadership role.

These resources are written for churches preparing for or in settlement to help them to consider their own theology on women in ministry and how to approach settlement in a way that is equal and fair to both men and women. Most London Baptist Churches have many different theological views within their congregation. Most would be, at least on paper, open to a woman minister, even if not all their members agree. It is good to revisit the theology and tradition that defines how any particular church might approach settlement in regards to women in Baptist ministry.

There are three resources available - you can download them all towards the bottom of this page, or browse online below and by clicking on the links.

1) Calling a Female Minister: A guide for churches in settlement

This is designed for all churches preparing for or in settlement and it presents a Biblical egalitarian argument for women in ministry. It also includes some of the history of Baptist women in ministry and top tips for treating women well in settlement plus an extensive list of resources to explore.

2) Women in Ministry Sermon Series

An outline sermon series exploring the Biblical egalitarian argument for women in ministry, based on the structure of the settlement guide above.

3) Calling a Female Minister: Church Meetings

This contains example church meeting activities to help discern the kind of minister you are looking for, to help you work through different viewpoints, particularly around women in ministry (it can be used to help with other points of difference too) and a suggested outline for the special church meeting following a preach with a view.

You can browse the guide for churches in settlement below. Click on the links to access the other resources.
