‍The Mayor of London has urged people living in the capital to get their Covid-19 vaccinations after he received his first dose.

Mayor Sadiq Khan, who has severe asthma, was vaccinated at Mitcham Lane Baptist Church in Streatham (Furzedown) on Friday. The local resident and former MP for Tooting said it was "fantastic" that more than 1.5 million Londoners had received at least one dose of a Covid vaccine. Mitcham Lane BC, which has become a vaccine centre for the local primary care network, has seen over 5000 people receive their first jabs on the site.

Rev. Gemma Dunning, the pastor of the church, took the opportunity to record the following message encouraging all to follow suit.

Mitcham Lane BC is not our only church providing a key support to our communities in this way, and it is fantastic to see our resources being deployed for the benefit of the wider community.

Our churches may not be 'open' physically on a Sunday but we continue to be church in so many other ways!

Sadiq receives his vaccination at Mitcham Lane from the Rev. Dr. Sue Clarke : former vicar of St Paul's Furzedown and former consultant at Guys Hospital.
