About the Regional Team
Our Regional Ministry Team has pastoral responsibility for the spiritual and practical wellbeing of our member churches and their ministers. They exercise this through practical advice and support – expressed through visitation, preaching in our churches, and regular minister’s meetings. They work closely with our team of District Ministers who cover a smaller group of churches on a geographical basis
Rev. Phil Barnard
Regional Minister, Team Leader
As Team Leader of the LBA, Phil leads on matters of pastoral care, settlement, strategy, safeguarding & property issues. Nationally, Phil represents the LBA on Baptist Steering Group, National Settlement Team, the Children Youth and Families Round Table, and Baptist Union Council
Prior to becoming Team Leader in June 2016, Phil spent ten years as Pastor of Mitcham Lane Baptist Church in Streatham: a vibrant church with many community projects and significant ecumenical links.
After eight years in retail management, he trained at London Bible College in 1997 and, following graduation, spent my first six years in pastoral ministry at Hertford Baptist Church in the Central Baptist Association. His ongoing passion is for the church to engage in a broad range of missional initiatives and for members to be well discipled. As Team Leader he aims to assist in the equipping of London churches for ministry in our evolving post-Christian, multi-faith and secular environment.
He grew up in Sutton and Cheam and – despite his somewhat suburban upbringing – has always identified himself as Londoner and loves the city. He is married to Jen who currently works for the Diocese of London in their youth and children’s department. They have three children: Ellie, Edward and Ernest and continue to reside in Furzedown near Tooting. Music has always been a big part of my life and currently plays in a band, Cajun Tigers. He also enjoy cycling, reading fiction, gadgetry and travel.
