Church of the Month – March: Broadmead Baptist Church
Broadmead Baptist church is nearly 50 years old with a current regular congregation of around 100 (including children). It has approximately doubled from its size in 2013. We are located on the Chigwell Rd near Woodford Bridge,15 minutes from South Woodford and Woodford Tube stations. www.broadmeadbaptistchurch.org.uk We have had 10 baptisms since 2013 and formed three new home groups.  We are currently excited by a fresh commitment to reach out to the local community. This Christmas we tried a new idea. We asked the groups that meet in our church i.e The Parkinson’s support group, Mums and toddlers, Zumba and Badminton along with our church members to nominate someone they thought would be blessed by receiving a Christmas Hamper after a tough or challenging year. We had 25 nominations so we made 25 hampers. We asked local shops as well as church members to contribute. We ended up with excess financial gifts, which we have currently set aside to double the number of hampers next year.  A local Pentecostal minister shared how it had worked for his church. A team of 10 organised the project led by a project manager.  We received local press coverage and most importantly some lovely thank you letters from recipients. See attached image.  There is now a “can do” attitude in the church, which I think was reflected in the 2015 week of prayer when we regularly had over 25 attending most nights during the week. This again has doubled the attenders in 2013.  Clearly it will be good to do this next year but I would like to encourage greater involvement and interaction with the groups that use our church and the Zumba groups were encouraged to do a Zumbathon which raised over £1000 for Haiti Hospital Appeal.   Just a few personal challenges which some may see as “opposition” eg family illness, burglary etc  We are always happy to collaborate on any future projects. We hope to start a CAP money course in May in partnership with other churches, which may lead to some new opportunities.  Please pray we are kept dependent on God’s leading and not fall into the trap of over activity and ambitious enthusiasm. We would also like to see conversions as a result of this increased activity.
