On Our Knees
A Day of Prayer and Awareness about Children

British Baptist Churches were called by the Baptist Union to observe Sunday 11 June 2006 as a day of prayer and awareness about children. For more details of the national call, see the Baptist Union "On Our Knees" announcement.

Below are some reports on what LBA Churches email planned to do on 11 June. Many others did similar things.

Winchmore Hill Baptist Church
I am basing both services around the On our Knees theme using material from the [Baptist Union] website. The morning is a parade service so it should fit well.

Andy Potter
Minister

Stanmore Baptist Church
On Our Knees will be the focus of our prayers in the morning service and the evening service will be dedicated to it as well. It follows on from our doing the LST Christian Life and Children course earlier in the year.

Shaun Lambert
Senior Minister

Totteridge Road Baptist Church, Enfield
We are having a Prayer Breakfast focussing on children on the Saturday, and items in the morning service, which is a family service on Sunday also focussing on children.

Rev Dr Alan Beavis
Pastor

New Malden Baptist Church
For On Our Knees, New Malden Baptist Church is planning to have a 24 hour prayer room praying for children and young people in the church, locally and nationally. We hope to do that creatively (leaving out art supplies for those in the room to use as they pray) and would be happy to share the photos of the results. We will be doing this from Saturday 10th 9AM till Sunday 11th 9am.

We are also planning to devote the children’s work on the Sunday to prayer. The youngest group (3-5) will be thinking of friends they have who don’t go to church, making pictures of them and asking God to be their friends. The middle group (6-11) will have creative prayer stations around the hall, using different activities to pray for, their relationship with God, each others walk with God, non Christian friends and children around the world. The oldest group (11+) will be going on a prayer walk around the area, in particular walking past local schools.

Anna Field
Youth and Childrens Worker

Seven Kings United Free Church
That Sunday is a Parade service, so we thought it would be very appropriate to involve the children we have in praying for children's work in general as well as prayer in the service. We will be meeting for prayer in the evening, and will have prepared guides for prayer in the following week. I intend using the "Think Small" clip as used by Nick at the Baptist Union Assembly.

Brian Davison
Minister

Hillingdon Park Baptist Church
We have a Family Service that morning with a Children's and Schools Worker coming from the London City Mission. We are also planning to use material from the On Our Knees website.

Rev Reg Craig
Minister

Eldon Road Baptist Church, Wood Green
Our church is unable to do anything specific on 11th itself, as there was already a guest preacher booked for that day, but we have a half-day of prayer for children's work on 10th and both the services on 18th are led by people who work with children or Youth: morning by Pete Leveson of LBA, evening by Janina Gazda from Poland, who was leading children to Christ even during the communist era!

Bob Allaway
Minister

Brondesbury Christian Centre
As yet we haven't finalised our plans, but rest assured that we will most definitely seeking the Lords blessing on our ministry among young people children.

Neil Abbott
Minister

Selsdon Baptist Church, South Croydon, Surrey
We are having a half night of prayer on Friday 9th June and time of prayer following the evening service on Sunday 11th June at 7.45pm.

Mike Elcome
Senior Minister.

Orpington Baptist Church
We are happily celebrating 60 years of our Girls' Brigade Company at the church on this Sunday, which had been planned for some time. During the service there will be a specific time of prayer for the 'On Our Knees' campaign. The church will then be open for prayer from 5.00pm before the evening service and those who work with children within the church and others are being invited to come together to pray then too. The evening service will also have a slot for remembering the children, children's work and families within our church family.

Jo Lewis
Church Administrator

Leytonstone United Free
This whole emphasis on children’s ministry will be a feature in Sunday morning worship at Leytonstone. We have a church meeting after worship so this will give the church a chance to respond together. I intend to invite the congregation (those who can) to kneel down and see the church at the level a child sees things, as we focus on the Rising Generation growing in the knowledge of the Father, Son and Spirit.

Alison Mackay
Minister
