We are pleased to announce the appointment of a new team of Regional Ministers for the Association. As you will remember, we advertised for two positions several weeks ago. We were encouraged by a healthy response to the advertisement and eventually interviewed seven candidates for the positions on the 15th and 16th June.
The process took some unexpected – and providential – twists and turns which has enabled us to recruit the equivalent of three new regional ministers: two part-time (50%) and two full-time. We weren’t expecting this outcome at the start but for a variety of reasons, not least being compelled by the character and gifts being offered by the candidates themselves – coupled with the surprising and pleasing situation that we could make the costs of this particular team sustainable for the LBA.
We are unable to announce the fourth member of the team just yet as he has not yet informed his current church but we felt we should go public on the names of the other three appointees. They are:
The Revd. Lee Johnson (currently pastor of Stoke Newington BC and NE District Minister)
The Revd. Carol Bostridge (former pastor of Crofton Park BC and current SE District Minister)
The Revd. Winston Bygrave (currently pastor of West Hendon BC and NW District Minister)
Lee will be full-time with the Association and we are hoping to base him in North East London. He is likely to be covering the Northern, North Eastern and Eastern districts of the LBA.
Carol and Winston are part-time (50%) appointments. They both already live in the areas which they will probably cover. Carol lives in Lewisham and will continue her ministry in that area – working part-time for the Association and part-time for Lewisham Foodbank. She is likely to have responsibility for the South East and South East Thames districts. Winston lives in South Oxhey (in between Harrow and Watford) and will continue to be part-time minister of West Hendon BC alongside his new role in the LBA. He is likely to have responsibility for the North Western district.
The other person (to be announced soon) will be full-time and cover the Western, Thames Valley and Heart of London districts. They will most likely be based in West London around Heathrow within easy reach of the soon-to-be-opened Elizabeth Line.
Phil Barnard will remain based in Tooting and cover the South West and East Surrey districts.
Further details will be shared in due course (including start dates, days off and other roles & responsibilities) but these are exciting times for the LBA. We are preparing our new offices for our forthcoming move and news about that will also follow. Please do be in prayer for us as we transition to a new team and location. Do pray especially for the new regional ministers as they prepare for these new roles – and lay down other responsibilities.
The Revd. Lee Johnson
Lee has been a church minister for over 20 years, serving in three Baptist Churches; Stoke Newington, Esher Green and Redhill (Surrey). Lee entered Bible College in 1994, prior to this he was a site manager in the Tarmac Group. Lee is married to Dawn and they have two grown up daughters Lydia and Hope. Lee enjoys playing the guitar, photography, walking and he is an England Cricket and Rugby fan. He loves living and ministering in London and he is passionate to see the church fulfil its call to make disciples who are themselves disciple makers.
The Revd. Carol Bostridge
Carol is an experienced District Minister with a passion for supporting and encouraging churches and their leaders to fulfil their calling to be Good News. Her heart for mission is rooted in Jesus’ application of Isaiah 61: We are anointed and called to be Good News to the poor, to proclaim freedom to the oppressed, to bring sight to the blind. She is an ex-Maths teacher and was, previously, the Pastor of Crofton Park Baptist Church for 14 years. She currently serves as the COO of Lewisham Foodbank – a role which she will continue to hold. She has two grown up children – and loves sport, especially Watford FC.
The Revd. Winston Bygrave
Winston grew up in South London and attended Balham Baptist Church and Tooting Junction Baptist Church as a teenager. He has been the part time Senior Minister at West Hendon Baptist Church since October 2011 and has served as a District Minister for NW District since October 2013. Prior to entering the Baptist ministry he taught in variety of multicultural secondary schools for over 20 years, and his last role was serving as a Deputy Head Teacher (Pastoral Care) in a North London secondary school. He did his theological and educational studies at the London Bible College; Roehampton University and King’s College, London during the 1980’s. Winston has also taught as a part-time tutor at the London School of Theology. He is married to Laureen and they have 6 adult children and eleven grandchildren. He enjoys playing the guitar, keeping fit, reading and developing church leaders.
