The Apology for the Transatlantic Slave Trade by BU Council

Rev Kumar Rajagopalan
Rev Kumar Rajagopalan is the LBA Regional Minister responsible for Racial Justice. The appointment was confirmed unanimously at the LBA Annual Assembly on 14 May 2003 and he took up his post on 1 September 2003. Until then he was a co-opted member of the LBA Board of Directors.

In commending the appointment of Rev Sivakumar Rajagopalan (his full name) to the Assembly on behalf of the Selection Committee and the LBA Board, Pat Took said that he was known to most people as Kumar Rajagopalan. She said that he has been the Minister of Westbury Avenue Baptist Church since leaving Spurgeon's College in 1999. The church has a multi-ethnic congregation (40% Afro-Caribbean, 35% African, 25% white and other). While at Westbury Avenue, Kumar has been chaplain to Haringey police force and has also been actively involved in Pray Haringey. He was co-opted to the Board of Directors of the LBA during 2002.

Kumar has very wide experience having studied chemistry at Aberdeen and worked as a chartered accountant. He is 38 years old, married to Georgina and he and his wife are foster parents.

Pat said that the Selection Committee were highly impressed with Kumar's grasp of the issues, his theological reflection and his insight.
