Ministry

Ministry covers the support of all forms of recognised and accredited ministry amongst our member churches and so includes the flollowing topics:

  • the testing of a call to ministry (or other forms of service);
  • the arrangements for settlement of Ministers in new churches;
  • advice and help for churches as they seek a Minister; and
  • pastoral care for ministry and churches in difficulty for any reason.

Please see our Who to Contact table for details of who to contact about any of these (and other) issues.

Resources for pastoral transitions

The LBA has produced a workbook to provide churches with a framework to manage the transition from the time when a minister indicates that she/he is leaving to the selection and induction of a new pastor. The workbook is entitled 'When a Pastor leaves ... Enabling pastoral transitions in the local church.'

Alongside 'When a Pastor leaves ...' the LBA has also developed the 'Interim Moderator training pack'. This workbook is designed to help people prepare for and reflect on their role as moderators for churches in pastoral transition.

When churches are asked to assess a call to ministry ...

When anyone believes that they have a call to accredited Baptist ministry, before being interviewed by the Association Ministerial Recognition Committee they will need to be commended by their local church. The LBA has produced guidelines to help churches take this process seriously.

The guidelines are available as a pdf document and can be downloaded by clicking here. pdf
