Service of Celebration to Mark 65th Anniversary of Arrival of Empire Windrush – Saturday 22nd June 2013
Venue: Bloomsbury Baptist Church Time: 3.00-4.45pm
On 22nd June 1948 passengers from the Empire Windrush disembarked at Tilbury Dock. Many came to rebuild Britain, their ‘Motherland’, which had been devastated by the Second World War and others to make some money and return to the Caribbean.
On Saturday 22nd June 2013 a service will be held at Bloomsbury Baptist Church to celebrate the enormous contribution that those of the Windrush generation and their descendants have made to Britain. We are very pleased that Samuel Beaver King MBE, who was one of those who arrived on the Windrush will be present to share his experiences.
At the service there will be an opportunity to view a DVD resource produced by London Baptist Association and Heart of England Baptist Association that tells the story of the Windrush generation from the Christian faith perspective. Also a proposal to institute Windrush Day to celebrate the contribution of immigrants to Britain over many centuries will be put forward. The proposal is supported by a wide range of organizations.
Please do publicize the event at your church and we very much look forward to seeing you at this important service of thanksgiving and celebration.
With Best Wishes in Christ

Regent Hall, Salvation Army, 275, Oxford Street
We are delighted to confirm the arrangements for this year’s London Event as above.
This is planned to be a time of worship and celebration together of the life of our London church family, as well as sharing the business side of our activities.
The keynote speaker will be Rev Lynn Green, the new General Secretary of the Baptist Union of Great Britain.
There will be stories from our member churches to encourage us, the chance to pray together, and activities for children. A number of new churches will be welcomed into membership. The formal business of the A.G.M. will be incorporated into the day.
It will also be an opportunity to re-launch the vision and strategy of the Association with news of new communication ideas and much more.
Please put the date in your diaries and begin to encourage your church members to attend.
